Today, April 24, 2025, Achievers Ghana proudly celebrated International Girls in ICT Day under the global theme “Girls in ICT for Inclusive Digital Transformation.” This year’s event stood out not just for its powerful message but also for the people behind it, a team of young girls who led the planning, organization, facilitation, and execution of the entire program.

Held at the Achievers Ghana Learning Centre in Accra and streamed live on Facebook, the celebration brought together young girls from across the country, especially underserved communities in Accra, Tamale, and Jasikan. With support from our key partner, the KGL Foundation, the event served as a bold statement on the importance of investing in girls’ digital empowerment and recognizing them as leaders in the tech space.

The celebration was more than an event—it was a vibrant learning experience. The opening ceremony, confidently emceed by Joy Ania, introduced guests to the mission of Achievers Ghana and the central role that girls play in digital development. Joy set the tone for a day driven by purpose, innovation, and girl-powered leadership.

Inspiring speeches followed, including one by Nahima Haruna, who addressed the persistent gender gap in technology. She emphasized how girls continue to be underrepresented in ICT fields and called for collective action to change this narrative. She also outlined the many benefits ICT offers young women—from boosting confidence and creativity to opening doors to high-paying careers in a fast-evolving digital world.

Hawa, another youth leader, delivered a compelling reflection on Achievers Ghana’s ongoing efforts to promote girls in tech. She detailed the wide range of programs that girls benefit from, including Robotics (VEX, Arduino, and LEGO), Web Development, Graphic Design, UI/UX, and Digital Literacy. These programs, she explained, are not just about learning skills—they’re about sparking interest, building confidence, and preparing girls for real opportunities in the tech industry.

A major highlight of the day was the Hands-on ICT Workshop led by Burhan and a team of trained peer educators. The girls engaged in sessions that covered coding, robotics, cybersecurity, and digital literacy. What made this experience even more powerful was that many of these sessions were facilitated by the girls themselves—demonstrating that when girls are given the chance to lead, they thrive.

Beyond the technical learning, participants also took part in interactive mentorship circles, career guidance discussions, and an exciting hackathon challenge where girls worked in teams to develop tech-based solutions to real-world problems. These interactive components helped bridge the gap between learning and real-life application, offering the girls a glimpse into future career possibilities.

The impact of the event was undeniable. Over 120 girls participated in person, and more than 200 viewers joined the live broadcast online. Many girls reported increased confidence in their tech abilities, greater interest in pursuing STEM education, and a renewed sense of purpose.

One of the most touching moments of the day was the recognition of former Achievers Ghana participant Ayisha Mohammed, whose journey from a local beneficiary to Operations Manager at YepAfrica continues to inspire many. Her story is a living testament to the power of opportunity and the impact of sustained investment in girls’ potential.

This year’s celebration would not have been possible without the generous support of our partner, the KGL Foundation, whose commitment to girls’ education and digital inclusion continues to drive meaningful change across Ghana. Their support enabled the provision of tools, training, mentorship, and safe spaces for girls to explore and express themselves through technology.

Girls in ICT 2025 Celebration was not just a success; it was a movement led by girls, for girls. It proved that when girls are given the platform, resources, and trust to lead, they not only rise, they lift others with them. At Achievers Ghana, we remain committed to breaking digital barriers and ensuring that every girl, regardless of her background, has the chance to be part of the digital future.
