An annual event organized by Bountiful STEEM Educational Center in celebration of International Day for a Girl Child was represented by Achievers Ghana with 80 girls from deprived communities in the Greater Accra region of Ghana.

Workshops are an excellent way to give girls a taste of what they can actually do with technology. In order to engage girls’ interest, it is crucial that they not only hear about technology but also use it. Through the Hands-on workshop and other activities, the girls saw for themselves that, you don’t need to be a math wizard in order to code, or a science expert to program a robot. In the workshop, the girls discover that technology is all about creativity, collaboration, and, most importantly, a lot of fun.

The girls also met and heard from role models that they can relate to in sparking their interest in ICTs. Female ICT professionals from different universities shared information about their career paths, professional and personal lives, and why they think ICT is interesting. The discussion took in small groups, inspirational talks, and round table discussions. The role models tried to avoid lecturing and let the girls ask questions freely.
